Orchid pots

Orchid Chronicles:

As each of my orchid residents' go into sleep mode, they get re-potted. The pots with a hole in the bottom don't train quickly enough nor do they let in enough air, so root rot can set in. Regular orchid pots have holes in the slides to let air in and helping to keep moisture away from the roots. Orchids like dry conditions for their roots to be happy. But every time I bring orchid pots into the center, the girls start arguing over who gets what pot. Unfortunately orchid pots are fairly pricey, so I pick them up on sale at local stores.
I have found another solution though that works just fine as substitute orchid pots--porcelain, clay or metal decorative candle holders. I just picked up a few at after Christmas sales for pennies compared to regular orchid pots. Excess water drains out the slides of the pots, and air gets in to help dry out of the orchid roots. When purchasing orchid pots, I have to make sure that the holes on the slide of the pots were small enough so that potting mixture doesn't come out. I just picked up these three at Ross' s for about $3.00 each vs. $10.00 for a regular orchid pot. Orchita, Char, and the Lilac Ladies were arguing over the new pots. I finally had them draw straws to determine who would get what pot. Between some of the ladies waking up from sleep time and the new pots...I'm getting excited for bloom time. If new shelves, more sunshine or new orchid pots are what's needed to keep the ladies motivated and happy.. then so be it!!

"Because if the girls aren't happy, nobody is happy."
