Orchid chronicles: The orchid center repotting staff almost made a critical error with those orchids recently reported. They put bits of lava rock in the bottom of the new pots to help with drainage. Orchids need water but like to be on the dry side mostly. A couple of the recently repotted residents were looking drab, so I investigated and found the lava rock was holding moisture setting up a bad
growing situation (root rot!)
So I ordered the sleepy orchids be repotted without the lava rock and a finer planting medium especially made to encourage drainage.

The sleep ward orchids hardly opened their eyes to see what was going on and the drab orchids are recovering nicely.
Whew!! close call for resolving residents' rescue from root rot.
